Though advertised with the intentions of increasing women’s protection, this device can be benefitted by anyone of any age, as it is a matter of pulling Hootie’s cap and scaring off attackers. How does Hootie work?

What makes Hootie innovative is its ability to stimulate fast decision-making in consumers, especially in dangerous situations. In fact, it requires very little of consumers, as it is as simple as pulling the removable pin from the body. In so doing, a siren of 130db will be emitted, while a “nearly-blinding” strobe light will begin to flash.

For those wondering the extent to which the sound can be heard, some examples include take-off of a military jet aircraft, a jackhammer, or a power drill. According to a  2008  review that discussed the different ranges of sound and how it might impact hearing loss, it was noted that anything louder than 130 dB can cause acute hearing loss.
